Car Collides With Pedestrians During Liverpool FC Championship Parade, Suspect Detained

One man has been arrested after his car collided with pedestrians amid Liverpool FC’s parade celebrating the team’s Premier League victory.

The Guardian reports that authorities and paramedics were called to Liverpool’s Water Street shortly after 6 p.m. local time on Monday, May 26. The vehicle that collided with the crowd was stopped at the scene, and one man was arrested. It’s unclear how many people were hurt in the incident, but several injuries have been reported.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the incident “appalling” and thanked emergency services for a quick response. “I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident,” he said. “I’m being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate.”

Liverpool FC hosted the open-top bus parade following the team’s victory in the Premier League.
