Heritage British wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros. & Rudd has announced the launch of Shindo Experimental 01, a Single Malt Japanese Whisky from Shindo Distillery – a new project founded in 2021 by Shinozaki, one of Japan’s oldest and most respected brewing and distilling houses.
This collaboration is rooted in craftsmanship. Berry Bros. & Rudd bring their sharp eye for sourcing and bottling standout spirits, while Shindo Distillery draws from over 200 years of saké and shochu-making heritage. Specifically, they bring an obsession with fermentation. That deep focus gives their whisky a distinct edge – a bold expression of Japanese flavour and technique.
Using a mix of rare yeasts, Shindo explores fermentation to unlock new layers of flavour. Shindo Experimental 01 is made from non-peated malted barley, and matured in a unique cask mix: 91% Bourbon, 4% New Mizunara, 4% Oloroso Sherry, and 1% Refilled Scotch.
Bottled at 50% ABV, this is a micro-batch drop – just 300 bottles have been allocated to the UK, and they’ll be available exclusively through Berry Bros. & Rudd.
Rob Whitehead, Spirits Buyer at Berry Bros. & Rudd, says: “This is moreish mastery from Fukuoka in Southern Japan, showing the delicious fruits of experimental fermentation and impeccable distillation. With only 300 bottles available in the UK, this limited release is really special.”
Shindo Experimental 01 will be available to pre-order In Bond from October 30, exclusively via the Berry Bros. & Rudd website, priced at £63.50 (approx. $85).
