Inside Gaudí’s Newly Restored Third Floor at Casa Batlló

Casa Batlló has officially unveiled its newly restored third floor — the last original residence of the iconic building designed by Antoni Gaudí. For over a century, the Barcelona space has been inhabited by direct descendants of the Batlló family. Now, this spectacular piece of design history welcomes the public as an exclusive venue for private gatherings, celebrations and gastronomic experiences. Following three years of meticulous, archaeological-style restoration, the project successfully stripped away multiple 20th-century interventions to reveal its remarkably intact 1906 architecture.

The restoration process uncovered a wealth of hidden architectural details that enrich the understanding of Gaudí’s visionary craftsmanship. Among the most significant discoveries were long-concealed stuccoes adorned with delicate floral motifs and the recovery of original undulating ceilings. The team also found recycled doors that had been cleverly adapted by Gaudí, as well as a previously unknown door handle design that further highlights his renowned attention to detail. Through the use of traditional artisanal techniques, original elements such as woodwork, flooring, and construction systems were carefully restored or faithfully replicated, ensuring the space remains a true reflection of its early 20th-century heritage.

Interior designer Paola Navone of OTTO Studio also introduced a contemporary layer that respects Gaudí’s architecture while activating the residence for modern use. Her eclectic contribution mixes artisanal objects, contrasting materials and curated furniture to create unexpected dialogues within the restored structure. This careful balance ensures that each room tells a unique story, allowing guests to experience Gaudí’s radical legacy through an intimate, natural and highly domestic lens.
