‘Résonances’ by Aliocha Boi and Daphné Lejeune explores Baccarat’s crystal heritage through photography and storytelling.
The book highlights craftsmanship, light, and cultural resonance across generations.
It situates Baccarat within French luxury while tracing its global influence.
In Baccarat‘s photobook, titled Résonances, photographers Aliocha Boi and Daphné Lejeune turn their lenses toward the historic Manufacture in northeastern France. Exploring the 262-year-old tradition of crystal-making, the project captures not only the French luxury house’s flawless final products but also the raw materials, tools and dedicated artisans behind them. The visual exploration made its debut alongside an ephemeral exhibition at Fisheye Éditions during the Les Rencontres d’Arles photography festival, celebrating the intricate and often unseen processes that take place within the brand’s post-war, church-like industrial complex.
Both photographers approached the historic space with distinct yet complementary perspectives. Boi was immediately struck by the human atmosphere of the workshops, focusing his camera on the heat, the dust and the strong sense of community among the artisans. His imagery highlights the stark contrast between the pristine finished crystals and the raw, unpolished textures of the environment, capturing details like crystal fragments piled near roaring furnaces.
Meanwhile, Lejeune was captivated by the striking orange glow of molten crystal and the material’s acoustic vibrations. Translating this sensory experience into her work, she crafted orange-toned photograms in the darkroom, exploring how the crystal simultaneously carries both sound and light.
