Surpassing the previous franchise opening record set by 2010’s Resident Evil: Afterlife ($26 million), the $75 million reboot serves as the eighth film installment adapted from the classic video game property. The project reunites Cregger with actor Austin Abrams, who stars as a medical courier navigating a viral outbreak of infested monsters in Raccoon City.
Driven by positive critical reception—including a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a B+ CinemaScore—the movie generated $48.3 million across international markets. The performance represents a major rebound for the film series following 2021’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, underscoring Cregger’s momentum and strong turnouts from horror audiences.
