London-based DJ and producer Erol Alkan has announced ‘Trash: A Club, A Sound, A Home,’ a book chronicling the history of Trash, the legendary club night that became a home for 2000s indie rock and electronic music. Due out from UK publisher Faber & Faber on January 14, 2027, the book arrives in a milestone year: 30 years since Trash began and 20 years since it came to an end.
Founded by Alkan in 1997, Trash reigned as a driving force in London’s underground scene for nearly a decade. Artists including LCD Soundsystem, Bloc Party, Hot Chip, and The Klaxons performed at the party, which held its final night at the storied club The End in 2007.
Alongside Alkan’s own recollections, the book features more than 70 hours of interviews with 39 figures connected to the night, including Justice, Peaches, Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears, Felix Da Housecat, and Tiga. On Instagram, Alkan revealed that he had stepped away from all remixing and production work—apart from weekend DJ gigs—for the past two years, rising at 5 a.m. each morning to focus on writing. “I’d be happy if I can show how an event started by a 22-year-old from Archway who had never left his neighborhood helped change the values of indie clubs and dance music,” he said.
A recent cryptic post from Trash’s official account—“There are lights that never fade”—had prompted fans to speculate about a one-night-only revival. But Alkan made clear that the announcement concerns the book, not a return of the party: “When Trash ended, I vowed never to bring it back. That vow still stands.”
