AVAU opens its first boutique in Milan’s Brera district.
Designed with Crosby Studios, the space merges historic details with stainless steel.
Features include a Vatican fresco-inspired sofa and a central “Magic Tray”.
Italian fragrance house AVAU has officially opened its first permanent home at Via Fiori Chiari 7 in Milan‘s historic Brera district. Founded by siblings Leonardo, Carolina and Caterina Catalani – who bring three generations of family perfumery heritage to the venture – the brand’s name serves as the phonetic expression of “A Vow.” Rooted in the Catalani siblings’ family heritage, the boutique reflects AVAU’s guiding principle of “A Promise Made Scent,” offering visitors an immersive environment that encourages conversation, discovery and connection.
In a notable creative collaboration, AVAU partnered with designer Harry Nuriev and his multidisciplinary practice Crosby Studios to bring the space to life. The interior design establishes a striking dialogue between heritage and contemporary craftsmanship, where original walls, exposed timber beams and a restored fireplace coexist with sleek stainless steel work surfaces and laboratory-inspired fixtures. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a living room anchored by a bespoke sofa. Its upholstery is inspired by the frescoes of Vatican City, paying homage to the founders’ grandparents, who once operated a perfumery inside the Vatican.
Opposite the living room sits the “Magic Tray,” a prominent display showcasing the house’s collection of six fragrances. This design feature recreates a cherished family ritual from the founders’ childhood, when their mother would ask each morning which fragrance they had chosen to wear for the day. The kitchen also serves as the symbolic heart of the Home, where ideas are exchanged and the brand’s creative vision continues to evolve.
