Sacha Baron Cohen will star in Quentin Tarantino’s debut West End stage play ‘The Popinjay Cavalier’
Co-produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment the production is set in 1830s Europe
The swashbuckling comedy is scheduled to open at an unannounced London venue in spring 2027
Quentin Tarantino and Sacha Baron Cohen are teaming up for The Popinjay Cavalier, marking the director’s first stage play. The upcoming West End production stars Baron Cohen in the title role for his London theater debut.
Produced by Sonia Friedman Productions in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment, the project is described by producers as a rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise inspired by grand swashbuckling epics of stage and screen. Set in 1830s Europe, the original stage story sees Baron Cohen step into the lead role.
The theatrical casting comes ahead of Baron Cohen reprising his signature character in the Amazon MGM feature Ali G Who Iz I? in October. Tarantino’s move into London theater brings together two high-profile creators for an original West End debut.
The Popinjay Cavalier is scheduled to open at an as-yet-unannounced West End venue in spring 2027.
