IWC celebrates 50 years of Gérald Genta’s Ingenieur SL with two limited-edition watches.

IWC is marking the 50th anniversary of Gérald Genta’s Ingenieur SL with two special limited editions that pay tribute to the original 1976 design. Known as Reference 1832, the Ingenieur SL introduced bold aesthetics with its integrated bracelet and bezel secured by five screws, a style that would later become a defining hallmark of luxury sports watches. Though only 598 pieces were produced between 1976 and 1983, the model has since become one of IWC’s most sought‑after collector’s watches, inspiring the modern Ingenieur line launched in 2023. To mark five decades of this design heritage, IWC introduced the Ingenieur Automatic 50th Anniversary edition in 40mm and 35mm.
Both novelties feature brushed silver-plated dials inspired by a rare vintage variant of the 1970s Reference 1832. Paired with rhodium-plated hands and Super-LumiNova® filled indices, the monochromatic display carries a subtle commemorative detail: the traditional lightning bolt motif beneath the “Ingenieur” inscription has been replaced with the number “50”. Crafted from stainless steel, both cases feature the signature five-screw satin-finished bezel with polished edges. While the 40mm version maintains a fully satin-finished integrated bracelet, the 35mm iteration incorporates polished middle links for an elevated dress-sports aesthetic.
The 40mm model is powered by the in-house Calibre 32111, featuring a double-pawl winding system that delivers a 120-hour power reserve, alongside a soft-iron inner case to protect against magnetic fields. Conversely, the 35mm edition offers a see-through sapphire caseback exposing the Calibre 47110, complete with a gold-plated oscillating weight and a 42-hour power reserve. Prices range from $12,900 USD for the 35mm variant, to $15,000 USD for the 40mm model. Both models are capped at 1,150 pieces each and are available for inquiry through IWC’s website and boutiques.
