Netflix and Skydance Animation have unveiled the first trailer for Brad Bird’s animated sci-fi feature ‘Ray Gunn’
The voice cast stars Sam Rockwell as private eye Raymond Gunn alongside Scarlett Johansson as multimedia icon Venus Nova
The film will receive a limited 70mm theatrical release on December 4 before its global Netflix debut on December 18
Netflix and Skydance Animation have released the first trailer for Ray Gunn, an upcoming animated sci-fi feature directed by Brad Bird. The long-gestating project from the The Incredibles filmmaker will secure an exclusive 70mm theatrical run prior to its streaming launch.
Set within Metropia—a sprawling alternate-future city blending humans, aliens, and a 1939 retro aesthetic—the story centers on private investigator Raymond Gunn (voiced by Sam Rockwell). Gunn finds himself drawn into a high-stakes murder mystery surrounding multimedia star Venus Nova (voiced by Scarlett Johansson).
A 30-year passion project for Bird, the film is produced alongside John Lasseter, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Lisa Beroud. The newly expanded voice ensemble features Tom Waits, Alan Tudyk, Matt Berry, Bobby Cannavale, Michelle Rodriguez, John Ratzenberger, and Patton Oswalt.
Ray Gunn arrives in select 70mm theaters on December 4, 2026, before streaming globally on Netflix on December 18, 2026. Watch the trailer above.
